Gerry E. Griffith, Sr. hails from Dayton, Ohio and has enjoyed a rewarding career in education spanning over 52 years. Known for his dedication and passion, Mr. Griffith has significantly impacted the lives of countless students and colleagues. His journey in education began unexpectedly when he took on a role as a teacher’s aide at Louise Troy Elementary school after being laid off from General Motors. This experience ignited his passion for education, leading to further studies and ultimately a fulfilling career as an educator.
Throughout his career, Mr. Griffith consistently demonstrated a positive attitude and unwavering support for both students and staff. He actively mentored youth, provided counseling, and through personal engagement, offered encouragement and guidance. His commitment to the well-being and academic success of his students has left a lasting impact in each educational institution he has been a part of.
After transitioning from his role as a teacher’s aide, Mr. Griffith began his teaching career at Miami Chapel Elementary School, where he also served as the basketball coach. His administrative journey took him to Dayton Public Schools, including roles at Colonel White High School for the Arts, Meadowdale High School, and Fairview Middle School. Notably, he was instrumental in reshaping the dynamics of Colonel White High School, elevating it to one of the top schools in the area.
Following his retirement from Dayton Public Schools, Mr. Griffith continued his service as a principal in various Ohio school districts, including Trotwood, Jefferson Township, and Springfield. In 2016, he returned to Dayton Public Schools, serving as an assistant principal before being appointed as the principal of Stivers Schools for the Arts. Throughout his career, Mr. Griffith has been praised as a positive and influential role model, earning widespread admiration and respect within the schools he has served.
Mr. Griffith is a proud alumnus of Roosevelt High School, Sinclair Community College, Central State University, and The University of Dayton. Beyond his professional endeavors, he values spending quality time with his family, enjoying vacations, and attending sporting events. His core beliefs center around creating a conducive learning environment for all students and the importance of involving parents and the community in fostering a sustainable culture of success within educational institutions.
